My magical journey to Toronto turned into an unforgettable musical experience! I finally attended a concert by the legendary Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America with their new program “Ukraine Lives”. I had heard about their performances before, but experiencing them in person is something completely different.
The chorus, with its impressive performance and emotional power, preserves Ukrainian traditions and cultural mission through the sounds of the 60-string bandura. The concert was filled with new compositions reflecting the unyielding resilience of the Ukrainian spirit, especially in light of recent events in Ukraine. The program offered a captivating musical journey with a collection of newly arranged songs with deep patriotic significance.
I did not expect such profound emotions that lingered after the performance. The soloists, bandurists, choir, and conductor kept me in an extraordinary state from start to finish.
During the concert, an unexpected event occurred—the electricity went out, but it did not stop the musicians. They continued to play, illuminated only by the light of the audience’s mobile phones, adding a special magic to the evening. The solo performance of “My Ukrainian Brethren ” by Zenon Chaikovsky, performed without a microphone, demonstrated the true mastery of the artist and brought thunderous applause.
After the concert, I had the honor of attending the Divine Liturgy at Dormition of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church – Mississauga, Ontario where the voices of the bandurists filled the church with unforgettable resonance.
I am now eagerly looking forward to attending more performances by this outstanding chorus and dream that their talent will soon be appreciated in Orlando and South Florida as well! 🇺🇦💙💛
